I'm not really sure that writing software is all that fantastic - but something called MyNovel caught my eye. MyNovel Website Here - it looks pretty snazzy and some of the features look great. Has anyone tried it? Is it helpful? Also, does anyone know of a word program/writing software that I can set a date for all the words (I'm writing a historical romance and sometimes I slip up and write modern words and sometimes I don't even realise in editing that they're too modern) and it will tell me if the words are rooted after that date? Any input would be great.

I've never really come across any novel writing software that was better than what I could devise/do with regular old word processing or spread sheet software, be it actual composition of a novel or short story, or tracking submissions.
As far as wording, such as in dialogue, I'd suggest to get the story down first. Then, when revising you can go back with a focus on proper words being used (so that you're less likely to miss improper 'modern' words or usage). I don't know off hand of any software writing program that would watch for such things as you write--although there might be some out there. R-Tech -------------------- |

Gotta go with R-Tech here. I've never seen any software like that either. You're best back-up on any project is yourself. It's all in the research.

I third this notion.
Most of the stuff ends up as a distraction from what we should be doing: actually writing. Notice how well the great writers of earlier centuries wrote without all the gadgets we have today. Just proof that none of it is necessary. Sorry to be negative without actually experiencing MyNovel. As I've mentioned before, Q10 is all I need. -------------------- "I have often maintained that fiction may be much more instructive than real history."

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. It's pretty pricey as well. I'll give it a miss.

Plus, save that money for printer ink, postage, saving for a computerupgrade, and other writing needs. R-Tech -------------------- |

A simple word processor has always done me. The one tool that I do find very useful though, is mediaWiki. I've set up a wiki on my computer to organise my world-building, timelines and characters.
